Importance of Saffron

Saffron, among medicinal plants, possesses a unique radiance, and the reason behind this brilliance lies in its long-standing history in traditional medicine and its extensive use in the treatment of various diseases. Research results have shown that saffron has an impact on the treatment of certain illnesses in laboratory animals, and its role in treating a wide spectrum of diseases such as cancer, asthma, cough, inflammation, and more has been proven. Additionally, findings indicate that compounds like phenols, flavonoids, and anthocyanins, found in saffron’s petals, contribute to its therapeutic effects.

One of the challenges in the food and pharmaceutical industries is the proliferation of drug-resistant microbial strains. This is largely due to the toxic and carcinogenic nature of synthetic chemical compounds. Consequently, there is significant research attention towards using medicinal plants for the treatment of chronic diseases. Therefore, the use of natural antimicrobial and antioxidant compounds like organic acids, essential oils, and herbal extracts can serve as suitable and safe alternatives in food products. Saffron is one of the medicinal plants that has been recognized for its beneficial effects in traditional medicine.
